During my second grade long-term substitute position, I Created a classroom management system. I strategically placed the students at table groups in order to promote a successful learning environment. Each table worked together to make up a name for the table. Whenever they were behaving positively, I rewarded them with a tally. The table group with the most tallies at the end of the week won a prize. Some rewards included picking a spot to read in the room during Reader's Workshop first, five minutes of free choice time, or first pick at a classroom job.

Conant Elementary School is an International Baccalaureate school. Part of being an IB school is developing a Primary Years Programme. There are six transdisciplinary themes that the students are taught each year. I taught the students a plant unit that fell under the Transdisciplinary theme of "How We Organize Ourselves."

I made sure to put the daily agenda on the board each day and go over the agenda in the morning with the children. This helped all children, especially the children who were ASD and other children who needed structureknow what is expected of them during the day.
I placed learning targets on the board before each lesson for the students to read. This helped the students know what they should be learning in each lesson. It also helped me as the teacher pick out the most important thing that students should take away from each lesson.
